Summer truffle plantation

Summer truffle plantation in Yorkshire (UK)

In rural Yorkshire, nestled between fields and rivers, lies one of our partnership
summer truffle (Tuber aestivum/uncinatum) plantations.

The site

On a family estate, the plantation site required liming but now has
optimal con
ditions for the cultivation of the summer truffle.

Young truffle-tree saplings from our laboratory were planted during the 2006/07 season across 1.5Ha.

The results so far

Over the past season the trees have grown considerably and root analysis in
December 2007 showe
d the truffle fungus to be thriving.

If you have a site that you think may be suitable for such an approach, please contact us to discuss the various options.

Some very exciting news- earlier this autumn we received photos from our welsh plantation showing a very distinct ‘brûlé’. A brûlé is a burnt-looking patch of ground, devoid of vegetation underneath the tree caused by the truffle fungus- these normally take several years to appear and signal imminent onset of fruiting of the truffle. This is particularly exciting as they have appeared on around 70-80% of trees planted last winter! With an average age of 9months (from planting), these results are every exciting indeed,
