Truffle establishment within a woodland

Starting in 2008 we trailed another new approach to truffle cultivation that involves planting saplings within a woodland environment.

Our primary site is now planted with its first two trail
plots (440 trees). The trail is a partnership-plantation an
d will eventually contain 1,100 trees spread across five plots with differing conditions.

A lot of time/expertise has gone into the preparation of this trial and updates will be published here as the trial progresses. The predictive benefits of this approach include a short time to harvest due to certain conditions found within the woodland.

If you have a woodland site and would like to try this approach,
please e-mail us for further
details.

In rural Hampshire, our expert dog trainer Marion Dean has been busy crafting a new resource for would-be truffle hunters and farmers alike. Compiled from footage taken throughout 2009, the DVD aims to show how much care must be taken when harvesting truffles to prevent any damage to the valuable fungi, their mycorrhizal growth and the trees supporting them. With plenty of footage of truffle harvesting, you can also gain an insight into Marion's style of teaching.
