Truffle levy in Australia?

Australia’s having a good season with around 1.5tonnes of truffles tipped to be harvested in 2009. However, not all is rosy down-under with many sites underperforming and frustration among some farmers. This is not surprising as we’ve always maintained that you really do need real-research driven expertise on board to ensure the success of your truffle orchard.

At the 2009 Australian growers AGM, it was mooted that an industry levy should be introduced to fund research and development. The co-operation and figures involved lead us to speculate that this is unlikely to happen any time soon but it does affirm the fact that real expertise is needed in truffle cultivation and with our research sites spanning a range of climatic and soil conditions across 15 countries, we’re inclined to agree! We of course welcome new growers and our partnership model is a real and strong alternative to a levy.

The prime tree planting time November – March is upon us. Traditionally, November to March are good months to plant, as the trees are dormant and planting in the winter allows the truffley-roots plenty of time to settle in before mycorrhiza and root-growth starts again in spring.
