Truffle Training School's own plantation

Customers of the Dog School and guests of MSL will be able to watch the progress of the newly planted truffle orchard in Somerset.

The Site

The site is based in Somerset at the Truffle Dog Training School, hosted by Marion Dean. The ground required significant liming and basic ground works.

The planting

As advised by MSL, the site was mainly planted with hazel and oak with a smaller experimental component of beech and silver birch, all impregnated with
Tuber aestivum/uncinatum – the summer truffle. 
Trees were planted in the 2010-2011 season and we're individually protected with tree tubes. Extra protection is by way of a rabbit-proof fence which is currently undergoing installation.

Monitoring

Similar to all our partner sites, the plantation will be subject to regular soil testing and
root analysis to monitor progress and offer tailored guidance. News will be recorded at regular intervals and we hope you will all enjoy following this exciting project.

  • New growers’ seminar

    After the success of our first new growers' seminar, we decided to make it a recurring event with the last meeting held on 22nd March. With participants from four countries, this last meeting was a huge success and was enjoyed by everyone who attended.
